Hmm school starts in a couple of days =(. Must make up resolutions! Aside from you know... the obvious.. studying harder (yah right...) not do things last minute (ok there...). Here is my list:
1) Break free of my hermit ways by Meeting new people/ spending time with these new people.
Staying at school more often instead of going home directly after classes.
2) Since I'll hopefully be staying at school more often...run the free track twice a week or do some form of exercise in my room
3) Eat healthier
4) Don't buy textbooks I'll never use
5) Don't go into panic/stress modes every time I start a hospital shift...
ah.. resolutions.. I wonder how many I'll keep...
Pick of the Day: I don't know if you guys (Veronica and Jenicka) remember that day we were in Sephora at Square One and I was talking about the free 10 day sample of Bare Escentuals. I wasn't sure if it was for Canada too, but I went today and asked and it is... SO when you get a chance go ask for it! It comes with a baby buki brush which is soooo cute =) You don't have to buy anything, just ask the person at the cash.
As we count down August, days get colder and nights get darker earlier. Tall tale signs that summer is almost over =(
Yesterday I attempted the Le Sac Dress with the rando fabric I bought from the bargain bin at Walmart. I didn't have any extra string so excuse the stupid beige mess. I've worked out the pattern (which wasn't too hard to begin with) from looking at the actual dress and really it was 2 pieces of rectangular shaped fabric sewn together at the sides. The owner of AA must be ecstatic for getting away with selling 2 rectangles and a piece of string for 40 dollars. Lesson learned from this? 1) I need softer fabric like cotton to make this. The fabric from the bargain bin was stiffer and really if I didn't tie that black belt around my waist I might as well be wearing a potato sac. 2) Gotta make it longer as the hem just hovers around my cooch.. ahem... I'll pick this up again when I decide to buy more useful fabric.
Today I woke up to find myself home alone. My sister went to school registration (ew) and my parents went to work. What did I decide to do you may ask. No... I didn't blast my music and prance around in my underwear (I would have any other day really). But today I decided to bake... well.. steam... I made steamed banana cupcakes. My arm hurts from whisking because I had to whisk the eggs and sugar to a certain stage of consistency. But it's all good.
Now that my summer is dwindling down I feel I need to do things to catch up on all those lazy days I spent doing nothing all summer.
Pick of the day: I saw this a while ago, but wanted to share. This is a concept trailer called The Sleep Shift from Wong Fu Productions (Yes those guys that brought you 'Yellow Fever' except this is more serious.) The plot follows a guy who has to work the graveyard shift of his family run store and because of this he starts to feel like he's missing out on life because he sleeps during the day when everyone's active and wakes up at night when everyone else is asleep. If you look past the cheese factor, I think the concept is quite good. I like this genre of movies =) I do hope they make it.
Short and sweet, because I don't want to be repetitive. --> this weekend was sweet times!!!!!
Onward to blog:
Today I went to my family physician to get my annual TB shot (so my school doesn't kick me out of the hospital). I didn't have an appointment and didn't really mind waiting as a walk-in patient. So me mum and I set out at 3:30 in the afternoon. We sat there and waited for at least 2 hrs. I'm sure it was more though because I finished watching all of 'Ever After' on my ipod. Now, the office is suppose to close at 5 but for some reason she (the doctor) kept accepting people into the waiting area. I thought it was pretty nice to allow a few extra people in especially when all the other doctor offices on the floor promptly closed their doors at 5. Well... apparently doing so caused a huge snowball-effect delay for everyone and some guy with 2 kids was actually waiting there for 7 hrs (7 HOURS.. GEEZ). Can you imagine? 2 fickle toddlers, having to (probably) take the day off work and waiting 7 hrs all for a 15 minute slot with the doctor who'd probably say something along the lines of 'Uh Huh, let me right you a prescription for that'. Well of course, he was all annoyed and kinda lashed out that the (snooty) receptionist after he saw the doc. I wouldn't blame him... poor man =(. Must have sucked. That's free health care for you... =/ sigh
Today's Picks: I came across Fall Out Boy's mixedtape (a compilation of some FBR/DD bands' songs remixed). Hope there's something for everyone to download and test =)
Cobra Starship (Gabe)- I Kissed a Boy. It's Gabe's take on Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl. Just like he did with hollaback girl except this time he probably won't get a cease and desist for it. Actually the song lyrics is quite amusing: http://www.mediafire.com/?8dxfn0nri3x
The Cab- Take My Hand Machine Shop Production (featuring Cassadee from Hey Monday). This one is a personal favourite aside from the stupid ending...: http://www.mediafire.com/?mjnu9ybgrme
So today marked the last day of my work. I'm glad I don't have to be waking up at 6:15 every morning anymore =D. To celebrate I bring you 3 stories of events which have happened this past week for your enjoyment/amusement.
#1: The Slaying of Mr. Mosquito So the other day I was off in my backyard picking cherry tomatoes to eat, unaware of a mosquito following me inside. I felt a tickle near my knee and scratched it while looking down and there was the culprit. Here's what went down:
Me to mosquito: OH YOU LITTLE... *SWAT-miss* OH BITCH IT'S ON.. I missed and spent the next 30 seconds swearing and swatting at it, hitting my cupboards and clapping my hands together like I'm giving a standing ovation. Finally I managed to swipe at it enough to daze it and i squished it with a paper napkin I had handy. Me to dead mosquito: AH HA! THAT'S RIGHT BIOTCH GOTCHA NOW.
Unbeknownst to me, my situation was right in view of my mama who thought I'd gone crazy. If that wasn't enough, the dead mosquito had the last laugh when 15 minutes later I was itching at 2 newly formed bumps on my knee. BASTARD. fin.
#2: Smooth but Hard Road I love rollerblading as exercise. I love that all the streets surrounding my house have been newly paved with smooth asphalt. (Rollerblading + smooth asphalt = Fast Times.) What I don't like is falling on my face, which is what I did in front of Alex's house. Here's a breakdown:
*trips on pebble* *tries to regain balance* *wobbles* *trips on pot hole* 'ah shit, I give up' *fall*
yup so now I have surface scrapes on one side of my body on my elbow and near my knee (incidentally it's the same knee the damn mosquito would bite a day later). I'm going to look like a wounded solider out on the dance floor. Le Fin.
#3: Buzzed. Being at home has it's perks. I've got food and laundry done for me courtesy of me mum. Usually, laundry at my house is hung dried outside, then my pile is placed on my bed where it is subsequently left there and pushed to the side of my bed for weeks until I feel like putting it away in my closet. On one fine day, I decided to put my heap back in my closet right away like a good girl I am. All of a sudden vibrations and buzzing came from my sock so I poked it a couple more times to confirm my suspicions. After figuring out that there was probably a bee in my sock I took the whole pile of clothes, walked swiftly out of my room and down my stairs all the while saying/screaming open the door... OPEN THE DOOR.. OPEN THE FRIGGIN DOOR (referring to my front door). I set the insect free and my dad comes down from his room asking about the yelling. I told him my situation and his reply was: JEEZ JEAN, you're in nursing, you look at people being cut up, blood and dead things but you act like that bee was a bomb *shakes his head and goes back upstairs*. The End
Well those were my stories. I'm not doing a Jean's Pick today because this entry is quite long already. =D Oh well hope I didn't bore you.
So in light of you guys getting blogs I jumped the bandwagon. It seems like it's going to be a fun adventure in the cyberworld... WOO. YAH.
I haven't blogged since the days of xanga (and by blogging i mean to say that it was really just a recorded of my daily happenings wherein i TYpED LiKe tHIs**~~~~ to be cool) oh the old days. Summer always makes me nostalgic. duno what it is... probably a combination of the weather, the sense of relative freedom from school and the feeling of just being able to laze about replaying those fun times in your head.
Gotta breathe, relax and enjoy. ahhhhh.
Jean's Picks of the Day: This little diddy here is where I'll be posting random stuff I feel like sharing with you guys. It may be a song I'm into, some video, some interesting piece of news or just what i'm into at the moment. I'll try to include one every post =)
On my current want list: Le Sac Dress from AA. It's so versatile =D
